The Los Angeles Lakers travel to Houston to take on the Rockets tonight as LA looks to return to winning ways after losing to The Miami heat and Orlando magic in their last two games seeing them sat at 3-4 on the season. The injury crisis yet again hit the Lakers Monday night when Anthony Davis had hip spasms late in the second quarter, he remains a game time decision for tonight. UPDATE: Per Mike Trudell, Anthony Davis won’t play tonight due to the adductor/hip spasm. Damn.
Well on a brighter note, Rui Hachimura is available and out of concussion protocol. Tauren prince retuned against the heat while Gabe Vincent Jarred Vanderbilt and Jalen Hood Schifino remain out as well as Jaxson Hayes.
Lebron Vs Brooks
In the Lakers first round series this past playoffs vs the Grizzlies, Lebron James and Dillon Brooks got heated on multiple occasions with Brooks often being the instigator. Tonight the Lakers will get their first look at Brooks on his new team. When Dillon Brooks was asked about the matchup , he said he couldn’t wait to lock Lebron up. Tonight there will definitely be some extra intensity on the court and hopefully it’s enough to help the Lakers come out stronger in the first quarter then they have done all Season. The Lakers can’t get dragged into the Lebron Vs Brooks matchup, the Rockets are a very talented young team with a great coach in Ime Udoka. It will be a hard fought game and the Lakers must remained focus and not get dragged into Brooks’ antics in order to get the win.
Bench production
Quite shockingly given their off-season additions the Lakers have struggled with production off the bench this season , and especially struggle when Lebron goes to the bench. Although most of this is due to injuries and not having 4 or 5 of their top 8-9 guys the Lakers still need to find a way to compete when their stars go to the bench. Something for Davin ham to consider is potentially moving D’angleo Russell or Austin Reaves to the second unit in order to initiate the offense when Lebron is off the floor and give the second unit a go to guy to keep the offense going. Last year the Lakers had Dennis Schroder to fill that role but with him on the Raptors and Gabe Vincent out inured the lakers need to find a solution to help their bench woes.
Tip off is at 8ET as the Lakers look to break their 2 game losing streak and return to .500. We still wait for official word on Anthony Davis’ status for Friday’s game against the Suns.
