The NBA’s biggest rivalry is back, as the Lakers kick off a road trip in Boston. Both teams are second in their respective conferences and, given the Lakers’ recent form, this could potentially be a preview of the NBA Finals.
Luka Returns to Boston
The Lakes and Celtics share a historic rivalry full of gripping storylines across multiple eras. Another thread in the story will be added tonight, when Luka Dončić will face the Boston Celtics as a Laker for the first time.
It will also be the first time that Luka will face the Celtics since losing to Boston in last year’s NBA finals. The Lakers will undoubtedly be motivated to try and get a statement win on the road. That said, the history that both Laker stars have with Boston will definitely be an added motivation heading into this primetime matchup.
Laker Defense
The driving force behind the Laker’s current 8-game win streak is their effort and execution on the defensive end. They will need to dig even deeper tonight against this Celtics offense. It is is no secret that Boston’s offensive game plan revolves around the three point shot and the multiple threats that they have to make a defense pay. The Lakers will need to maintain effort levels and discipline to keep Boston from getting high quality three-point shots.
With Jaxson Hayes listed as doubtful, the Lakers may have to find another way to prevent Boston from getting to the basket and creating drive-and-kick opportunities. Their defensive improvement will be put to a real test tonight against a potent Celtics offense. Can LA start the road trip off with a win and extend the win streak to 9? Tip off is at 5:30 PM PST as the Lakers take on the Celtics on ABC.
