I might regret writing this: the Lakers win over the Memphis Grizzles is the turnaround game. The Lakers huge win last night is the game we will all look back on and say it was the game that saved the Lakers’ season. I know. I am probably doing some wishful thinking here, but hear me out:
- The Lakers should have lost this game, but didn’t.
- The Lakers could have lost this game, but didn’t.
- The Lakers would have lost this game, but didn’t.
Now, the reasons that can go along with the three statements are not many. Yes, they were out-rebounded, which led to a big advantage in second chance points for the Grizz, and the Lakers were out-sized, but they only had nine turnovers. The Lakers also made 13 threes compared to nine for the Grizz.
How should they have lost? Out-rebounded badly on the offensive boards. Steven Adams man-handled Thomas Bryant.
How could they have lost this particular game? By poor end of game execution for which Darvon Ham has been terrible lately with his end of game strategies. This time, choosing to trap on what was Schroder’s game-winning play was a good call!
How would the Lakers have lost this game? By one or two points. Again. Like they have done so often this season.
The drum of utter frustration has been beaten too much already this season, and I, for one, expected the same end result – a disappointing loss. I was wrong. The basketball gods shined their light of love on us. The pendulum of making a good play finally swung our way. Just as I was about to turn off the TV and the lights and roll over into a proverbial bed of tears, the Lakers gave me hope. This team is getting better and better at the right time.
I just hope I’m right.
