Depleted Lakers to Take on Drama-Plagued Kings

The Lakers return home from their Christmas Day win against Golden State tonight, and will be looking to sweep the season series against the Sacramento Kings. The Kings are on a 5-game losing streak and unceremoniously fired head coach Mike brown yesterday, with Doug Christie becoming the interim coach. LA will be looking to continue the good momentum from the win in San Francisco.

Next Man Up?

Anthony Davis sprained his ankle in the first quarter of the Christmas Day game against the Warriors and didn’t return. Davis said post-game he would play tonight against Sacramento, however he is officially listed as questionable. LeBron James and Rui Hachimura are questionable with illness. Jaxson Hayes is also questionable and may return tonight from his ankle sprain. D’Angelo Russell is also set to return, officially listed as probable.

The Lakers depth will likely be tested tonight and they will need the bench to produce points, something they struggled to do on Christmas. However, with the return of D’Angelo Russell and the positive play of Dalton Knecht and Gabe Vincent, hopefully LA’s rotation can provide more support. If Davis isn’t 100% or can’t play, it will create a big task for Lakers big man Christian Koloko – who would likely be given the assignment of Domantas Sabonis. Koloko has played very well of late, providing valuable minutes in the front court.

Close the Gap

The Western Conference standings are extremely tight, with only 5 games separating the 3rd seed and the 11th seed. The Lakers have a chance to close the gap on the teams in front of them in this upcoming home stretch – and keep other teams from overtaking them. They have tended to play better at home this season and this stretch will give them a good opportunity to keep building on the positive momentum built in the last 10 days.

Can the Lakers sweep the season series against Sacramento? Tip off is at 7:30 PM PST.
